Sometimes when you have a person come in from the outside to date one of our young ladies in the church we tend to get defensive because often these guys that start coming to church have no real emphasis on Jesus in their lives and only their conquest. With Guarino though we had a pleasant surprise. Not only was he a fine young man and highly motivated but displayed such a tender heart towards his finance and most importantly towards God. As a chef he works very hard and shows great dedication. Having just opened a new Mexican Seafood  restaurant, La Mariscana, you would think that as with most restaurants it would be all consuming. Indeed it does take up most of his awake hours. But in designing their restaurant  Guarino & Anna made a quality choice by deciding they would keep their business closed on Sundays so as to be able to attend church. They scored big points with the pastors in doing that and we all look forward to their wedding! In the meantime if you want some amazing seafood we would highly recommend you check it out. Not only is Guarino a first rate chef chef but Anna Carolina, (one of our worship singers) is a pastry chef so this adorable young couple can feed you as well as minister to your soul. Editor: Where were you born and where did you grow up?

Guarino: I was born in San Antonio but I grew up in Laredo then moved away after I graduated from high school.

Editor: How did you end up coming to the Crossroads and how long you have been attending?

Guarino: It has been a little over 2 years I had just moved back home and I started coming to church because my fiancé, then girlfriend, attended the church since she was a little girl. Honestly, attending church has been incredible. Pastor Norman and Pastor Sandra are amazing and everyone is very warm and inviting!

Editor: How long have you known the Lord and how were you introduced to Him?

Guarino: I attended a Christian high school, it was then that I really began to get close to the Jesus.

Editor: How would you sum up your experience at the Church of the Crossroads?

Guarino: It honestly has been a blessing in my life, ever since I began attending the Church of the Crossroads I have been constantly trying to be a better Christian. I have had several obstacles come my way in the past 2 years and coming to church has helped me solve and guide my life in a very incredible way.

One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.

Editor: Do you have any hobbies or favorite pastimes?

Guarino:  I don’t have a lot of time for hobbies or pastimes since I am working all the time, but when I do get the chance I definitely enjoy traveling with my fiancé and family. Also, I love to golf and watch basketball. Go Spurs Go!

Editor: Share a favorite quote.

Guarino: As a Chef, I really like this quote:

“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.” –Virginia Woolf

Editor: Besides Jesus and the Bible, what books and/or people have had the biggest impact on your life?

Guarino: The person that has impacted my life is my mom. Thanks to her hard work and sacrifice I have been able to obtain my dreams. She is a person with a really big heart and always willing to help others in need.

The book that I love to read is Padre Rico, Padre Pobre (Rich Dad, Poor Dad)

Editor: Any items left on your bucket list?

Guarino: I have many items left, like traveling and expanding my restaurant, but I am working hard to begin to scratch them off. I was blessed to begin the new year with the opening of my new restaurant and another item off my bucket list that I will be blessed to scratch off in the near future will be marrying the girl of my dreams.

Editor: What legacy would you like to leave behind?

Guarino: The legacy I would like to leave behind is that I was a man of God and a living proof that your beginning doesn’t mark your end. It does not matter where you start, it does not matter how many times you fall along the way. With God, sacrifice and determination you can overcome all obstacles. Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
